Our Culture

Our discipline and focus keeps us busy. We hope you will enjoy our creations of merged traditional and contemporary techniques shown in our products. Many cultures have similar traditional practices that have evolved over time. Many of the changes are cumulative of our ancestors’ techniques.  The many different customs of our region share similar practices of the coastal people of Alaska. Part of our culture was a matrilineal society. Many matrilineal societies have existed in the world. Our female and male ancestors were strong and held unique roles. The men were warriors, hunters and providers. The women communicated with the spirit world and shared powers as shamans and healers.

Our Values

We continue to live in honor of those values we hold vital to our cultural survival: Our elders, heritage, language, subsistence lifestyle, respect for our land and nature, traditional art, skill, and ingenuity. Inherent in all of our values is respect for self, others and our environment. It is important to keep a healthy work-life balance by taking care of yourself and your family, taking time to rest and recharge. Reminders of your priorities helps maintain your perspective in your work. Some cultures had a combination of relaxation and work. Some say creating art may alleviate stress.
